Ooh Aah Stantona - Phil StantOoh Ah Stantona - Buy

By Phil Stant

Phil Stant, who is a Lincoln City former player and later player-manager, reveals all about his time at Sincil Bank in his autobiography.

The synopsis reads:

"The Like many young boys, Phil Stant was an avid football fan as he grew up. Born in Bolton in the 1960s, he was an avid Bolton Wanderers fan and he was eager to become a top flight player, just like his idols.

"Phil's career began to take a different path though when he joined the army and progressed into the SAS. As his life became one filled with combat and military exercises, he never gave up his love for football. He eventually realised his childhood dream too when he became a professional footballer playing for Notts County, Reading, Fulham, Brighton and Lincoln City.

"Popular with the fans and team alike, he became the manager at Lincoln in 2000. In this frank account of a life lived to the full, Phil recalls his tales from the front line, onto the pitch and from the sidelines. With fun anecdotes such as the time that the only way he could make it to a match was by SAS helicopter to how he felt about being sensationally sacked from his managerial role at Lincoln. His warm, conversational style and wit make this a must-read book with something for everyone."

Lincoln City Football club - Past ImperfectPast Imperfect - The Story Of Lincoln City FC - Buy

By Brian Halford

Amazon's Review

In Past Imperfect, former Lincolnshire Echo football writer Brian Halford takes the reader on a roller-coaster ride through the turbulent history of Lincoln City Football Club.

Immaculately researched, Halford's book traces the story of The Imps from their roots in the burgeoning local football scene of the 1870s and 1880s through to the beginning of the 21st Century, chronicling along the way the history of a lower league club shrouded by joy, despair, tragedy and no little humour.

Halford uncovers some fascinating stories and people as the proud founder members of the Second Division of the Football League survive a yo-yo existence for more than a century.

Tales of financial penury, match fixing, egotistic chairmen, incompetent managers, personal tragedy and sheer bad luck illuminate this marvellous book as Halford elucidates the part played by Lincoln City by characters as diverse as Nikolai Gogol, Billy Meredith, John Foster Fraser MP, George Robledo, Billie Jo Spears, Graham Taylor and even a Torquay police dog!

Quite frankly no Lincoln City FC fan should admit to not having bought a copy.

A Double Life - Buy

By Phil Neale

Published in June 1990 but do not let that put you off. This is the autobiography of former Lincoln City defender and Worcestershire cricketer Phil Neale. The book charts his experiences as the last full-time professional footballer to also have a top class cricketing career.

Several chapters are devoted to his time at Sincil Bank including his fascinating and in-depth thoughts on other players and managers, such as Steve Thompson and Colin Murphy.

An excellent read for anyone who can recall Neale and his team-mates.
