December 1983 in Doncaster. Previous clubs: Ipswich and
Boston United.
International
honours: 6 Wales Under-21 caps.
Signed: February
2005.
Lee Beevers, who
was born in Doncaster, is a versatile defender,
although Boston United believed that right-back
is his best position.
He won the Boston
United players' player-of-the-year and Boston
United manager's young-player-of-the-year awards
for the 2003/04 season, so it was a big surprise
when Boston sold him to Lincoln in February 2005
especially as Beevers had been linked to QPR.
Despite his South
Yorkshire roots, Beevers is a former Welsh youth
international, and was signed by Boston from
Ipswich Town in March 2003. He was a regular for
the Wales' Under-21 side until his retirement
from the Under-21's in November 2005.
He joined Lincoln
for an undisclosed fee, believed to be £50,000.
However, he has yet to live up to this fee and
the 2006/07 season will be a pivotal season in
his Lincoln City career. Lincoln, following the
departures of Gareth McAuley and Jamie McCombe,
have defensive vacancies, so Beevers must claim
one of these places - not least because he failed
to hold down a first team place during the
2005/06 season.
Beevers did not
disappoint even although he failed to establish
himself in one particular role. Despite playing
in several positions during the season, he was
rewarded with the Lincoln City FC Player of the
Season award for 2006/07. The following season
saw Beevers enjoy a steady season mainly playing
at centre-half.
