| Born:
15th June 1981 in Sheffield. Previous club: Huddersfield
Town.
Signed: July 2005.
A large number of
players departed Lincoln City during summer 2005
thereby leaving a vast void, especially in
midfield. The signing of Nat Brown helped to fill
those gaps in the squad, as he can play at
right-back, centre-half, midfield and as a
striker.
Brown began his
career as a trainee at Huddersfield in August
1998 but struggled to become a first team
regular. His best season occurred in 2003/04 when
Huddersfield won promotion from Division 3
(League Two). However, he only started 7 League
One games during the 2004/05 season.
Brown, despite
having a year on his contract remaining at
Huddersfield, was given permission by
Huddersfield Town manager Peter Jackson to leave
the club. In June 2005, it appeared that he would
join Shrewsbury on a two-year contract but the
transfer fell through. Instead, he has signed for
Lincoln on a two-year contract.
Jackson spoke of
Brown's impending departure by saying: "It's
a shame for Nat, as he's a great kid with a
brilliant attitude and undoubted ability. The
only problem is that I cannot guarantee him
first-team football."
Overall, he made
83 appearances for Huddersfield, but failed to
score for the West Yorkshire club.
Brown began his
career at Lincoln City as a goal scoring
revelation. Sadly, by the end of the season, he
was receiving criticism from some of Lincoln's
fans. In fairness to Brown, who works tirelessly
for the team, he spent the entire season in an
unfamiliar midfield role.
If Brown is given
his opportunity to play as a centre-half then he
could prove one of Lincoln's best players of the
2006/07 season. That prediction proved correct,
as Brown was given one of the two vacant
centre-half spots. His reward was to win the
Lincoln City FC Away Player of the Season for
2006/07.
A change of
manager in 2007 saw Brown slip out of favour but
he did act as cover at both centre-half and
right-back when injuries caused others to miss
out.
