Lincoln City FC's Defenders

b5

PAUL GREEN
Born: 15th April 1987 in Birmingham.

Previous club: Aston Villa.

Signed: January 2007.

Paul Green is a former Aston Villa trainee and an unknown quantity when he joined Lincoln City FC.

Although Green has never played for Aston Villa's first team, he did help Villa's youth team to the FA 2004 Youth Cup Final. His performances earnt him a call up to the England Under-18 squad.

Green can play in either defence or midfield. He made his Football League debut on January 27th when Lincoln City defeated Peterborough United. Since his debut, he has been given the left-back role despite being right-footed. However, he has shown enough skill to be classed as one of Lincoln City FC's most promising players for the 2007/08 season.

That prediction came true as Green was voted the Lincoln City FC Player of the Season for 2007/08 season despite being a part of a leaky defence. The following season, Green was played in his favoured right-back role in preference to Lee Beevers who was forced to become the right-footed left-back.

MOSES SWAIBU
Born: 9th May 1989 in Islington.

Previous clubs: Crystal Palace, Weymouth and Bromley.

Signed: January 2009.

Moses Swaibu is one of the many players who have joined Lincoln City after being spotted playing in non-league football.

Swaibu began his career at Crystal Palace aged 16 after being spotted playing in a school's team. He became one of the many promising young players that Crystal Palace had around 2006; players that included John Bostock. Despite tough competition, Swaibu was awarded the Scholar of the Year and Vice Presidents Young Player Of The Year for the 2006/07 season and seemed destined for great things at Crystal Palace.

Swaibu graduated from the youth team by accepting a one-year professional contract for the 2007/08 season. However, the Crystal Palace management decided that Swaibu would benefit from a loan spell, so loaned him to Conference club Weymouth in February 2008 but he made just one appearance.

In May 2008, and without making a single appearance for Crystal Palace, Swaibu was released. He immediately joined Gillingham on trial but was not taken on. He failed to find a professional club so in September 2008, Swaibu signed for non-league Bromley on non-contract terms. While at Bromley, he was spotted by Lincoln City's talent scouts and invited for a trial in January 2009. It was a successful trial and he was rewarded with a contract until the end of the season.

With Lincoln short of fit centre-halves, Swaibu was given a first team place and he made his Football League debut against Morecambe in February 2009. The departure of Lincoln City's Frank Sinclair in March 2009 vacated a central defensive position to partner Janos Kovacs. Swaibu grabbed his opportunity and made several impressive performances; as the season drew to a close both he and Kovacs were showing signs of developing a good partnership that was improving both player's abilities.

Although he only became a first team regular at Lincoln in March 2009, Swaibu was named as the Young Player of the Season for 2008/09. His reward was a new two-year contract that will keep him at Lincoln City FC until at least 2011 unless another club buys him first, which cannot be ruled out if he continues his excellent form into the 2009/10 season.
