What do Southend United, Barnet and Luton Town have in
common?
Give up; well, all three clubs are chasing Lincoln City
centre-back Janos Kovacs according to today's
Lincolnshire Echo.
Yesterday, in a surprise move, Kovacs was placed on the
transfer list by Imps' manager Chris Sutton. It is a
major shock as Kovacs is a fans' favourite at Sincil Bank
and his listing has provoked dismay amongst a section of
City fans who feel that the club should keep the player.
On the flip side, the Echo has also received comments
that this is the correct decision by Sutton.
Kovacs is out of contract in the summer, and his listing
would indicate that City are trying to sell him before
his contract expires. However, there has been no
indication that Kovacs would not sign a new contract if
one was offered.
Brought to Lincoln by former manager Peter Jackson in
summer 2008, Kovacs impressed many with totally committed
performances. At the time of his signing, I recall
commenting that I thought the signing of Kovacs for
£17,500 from Chesterfield was quite a coup for City.
Unfortunately, a change of manager has brought Kovacs'
first team career to a standstill and he has not made an
appearances since late November.
Whichever club he opts to sign for, they will receive an
old fashioned centre-half: strong in the tackle and a
good header of the ball. I wish him well in the future if
or when he does leave Lincoln City FC.
