Oxford v
Lincoln
16th December 2005
Lincoln City make the journey to Oxford United on Friday
evening for a League Two fixture.
Imps' boss Keith Alexander is forced to make one
alteration to the side that defeated Chester City 3-1
last Saturday. One of the few negatives of last week's
victory was the dismissal of midfielder Dean Keates, who
is now banned for three matches. This means that
Alexander must either shuffle his formation or find
another midfielder to replace Keates.
The most obvious choice is experienced midfielder Steve
Robinson, but Alexander has resisted the temptation to
recall Robinson from his loan spell at non-league Worksop
Town. This is despite Alexander reiterating two weeks ago
that Robinson has a future at Lincoln. The decision not
to recall him would now appear to indicate Robinson's
imminent departure - providing that another club wants to
sign him in January. If not, then Robinson will remain at
Lincoln for the remainder of his contract, which expires
in May 2006.
Alexander could opt to recall defender Colin Cryan to
side, as Cryan has played several games in midfield for
Lincoln this season.
Lincoln's victory against Chester was their first in
seven matches, and continues the coincidental theory that
Lincoln play better against clubs based in and around
Granada Television region. Sadly for Lincoln, tonight's
opponent Oxford is nowhere near the Northwest of England!
If Lincoln record a second successive victory tonight,
then they will move to 11th in the League Two table,
although the majority of League Two matches take place
tomorrow. However, an 11th place would psychologically
lift the morale of Lincoln's supporters, who could once
again dream of the play-offs.
Oxford head into this match from a 2-1 loss to Cheltenham
in the FA Cup second round. Manager Brian Talbot has
threatened changes for tonight's match, as he was far
from happy with his side's performance. He also has
injury concerns over Steve Basham (calf) and Adam Griffin
(dead leg).
