Yeo Offered
Deal
17th December 2005
Lincoln City's manager Keith Alexander has confirmed that
he has offered former Imps' striker Simon Yeo a contract,
following Yeo's imminent departure from New Zealand
Knights.
Yeo joined NZ Knights in June, after rejecting a new
contract at Lincoln City. Unfortunately, Yeo's dream move
to New Zealand has not worked out although he has scored
4 goals in 11 appearances.
Alexander confirmed: "We are just waiting for Simon
to give us an answer, because I would love to have him
back at the club."
The contract offer is until the end of the 2006/07
season, but several glitches could scupper the return of
the fans' favourite.
First, the Football league must sanction the transfer, as
clubs cannot resign a player from a foreign club within
12 months of his departure. This was a safeguard inserted
in transfer regulations to prevent abuse of the Bosman
Ruling. However, in this case, nothing inappropriate has
occurred, as Yeo has returned to England of his own
accord.
The biggest problem is that several other clubs have
expressed an interest in signing Yeo. These range from
League One club Huddersfield - who appear interested in
reuniting Yeo with his former Imps' strike partner Gary
Taylor-Fletcher - and League Two club Oxford United.
