Slade Gives
Mixed Yeo Messages?
21st December 2005
There is confusion over whether Grimsby Town are planning
a move for former Lincoln City striker Simon Yeo or if it
is merely press hype.
On Monday, Grimsby manager Russell Slade was quoted by
Grimsby's Official
website as
saying: "I've got a list of names that I'll be
targeting over the New Year and yes, it would be fair to
say that Simon Yeo is on that list of names.".
However, he has since given an interview to the Grimsby
Telegraph
stating that: "I know that Simon Yeo is heading back
to England, but that's it really.
"Obviously, like any manager, I would like to bring
a couple of players in to boost the numbers and I have a
list.
"Yeo isn't on that list but it's fair to say a
goalscorer like him could interest us.".
Meanwhile, Teamtalk quote Slade as saying:
"Simon Yeo is not on the list of players that I
would like to bring to the club, so I don't know where
this speculation has come from.
"Lincoln seem to be the favourites to sign him, so I
suppose it makes a good story for the media to link him
with Grimsby, with us being local rivals from down the
road."
Ex-Imp Yeo is currently a free agent after leaving New
Zealand Knights to return to England. As expected,
Lincoln have emerged as favourites to re-sign Yeo, who
left in June to pursue his New Zealand dream.
Meanwhile, Stockport County and Chesterfield are the
latest teams to join the list of clubs who are being
linked with Yeo.
