Green and
Keates' Futures In Doubt
11th January 2006
It has emerged that Lincoln City have tried to offload
midfielder Dean Keates and striker Franny Green to
Macclesfield, as part of the deal that could have brought
striker Jon Parkin in the opposite direction.
A week last Tuesday, it was revealed that Macclesfield
had rejected a six-figure sum plus player exchange from
Lincoln, although it was not disclosed which players were
offered. Now, the Macclesfield media have revealed that
it was Green and Keates who were offered in exchange.
Green has been out-of-favour at Sincil Bank for the
majority of this season, and appears destined to leave
the club when his contract expires in June. Last week, he
was recalled from his loan spell at Boston United,
although he did play for Lincoln against Wrexham last
Saturday.
Keates is a surprising choice for a player-exchange
because he has undoubtedly been one of Lincoln's best
players this season. Unfortunately, he has received two
red cards that have seen him suspended for 6 games in
total. His last red card came against Chester City in
December, in an incident that Imps' boss Keith Alexander
took a dim view of. This might have been the underlying
reason for Keates' inclusion in the deal. Again, Keates
played for Lincoln during their 1-1 draw at Wrexham.
Meanwhile, Macclesfield have changed their minds about
Parkin "not being for sale"; now, he is
"available at the right price".
Macclesfield chairman Rob Bickerton said: "Its
only fair to all parties that serious offers which meet
Jons career ambitions and our significant valuation
of him should receive due consideration."
