Folkes
Leaves City
12th January 2006
Lincoln City defender Peter Folkes has become the second
Imps' player to leave the club today. Unfortunately for
Folkes, he has not signed for another club, but instead,
has accepted a severance pay deal with Lincoln City.
Folkes signed for Lincoln City in July 2004 from Bradford
City on a free transfer after he rejected a new contract
at Bradford. However, Lincoln should have paid
compensation to Bradford as Folkes was under 24 years of
age, but no fee was involved as the West Yorkshire club
told their players that they could leave for free if they
received an offer, as crisis club Bradford sought to stay
in business.
Birmingham-born Folkes joined Bradford at the start of
the 2003/04 season following his release from Bristol
City. He had yet to make his professional debut when he
joined Lincoln, although he had played for Farsley Celtic
during the 2003/04 season on loan.
He made just three appearances for Lincoln and in
November 2005, he went for a trial at Chester City. Two
months later, he accepted a severance package and left
Lincoln City for good.
