Hull Steal
Imps' Target
12th January 2006
Lincoln City have lost the race to sign Macclesfield
striker Jon Parkin.
Last week, The Imps offered a six-figure sum plus Franny
Green and Dean Keates to Macclesfield in exchange for
Parkin. However, Macclesfield rejected that bid and
stated that Parkin was "not for sale".
Yesterday, Macclesfield admitted that Parkin was
"for sale at the right price", which came after
Parkin announced that he wanted to leave the club. He has
today signed for Championship club Hull City for an
undisclosed fee.
Speaking to Hull City's official site, Parkin said:
"I got a phone call from my agent on Tuesday to say
that Hull were interested in signing me and would I be
interested. It took me about three seconds to answer that
question!"
"The club had already turned down a few offers for
me, which weren't as appealing to me as this one. In the
end I went into the club and told them I wanted to leave
and to be fair to them they didn't stand in my way."
The good news is that Lincoln's manager Keith Alexander
has alternative targets and hopes to sign a new striker
very shortly.
