Meeting To
Discuss Keates' Future
16th January 2006
It is understood that Lincoln City's manager Keith
Alexander and the club's board are to meet this afternoon
to discuss Dean Keates' transfer request.
Keates submitted a written transfer
request to the
club on Thursday, as he seeks to return to his West
Midlands' roots for "personal reasons".
Already, Walsall have been linked with a move for Keates,
but they could be put off by Lincoln's £25,000 valuation
of the player. However, Keates' contract expires in June,
so some negotiation on the fee might take place should
his transfer request be granted.
It is an unfortunate situation for Keates, as he has been
one of the most outstanding players at Lincoln this
season. The only downside is his disciplinary record,
which has seen him receive two red cards thereby missing
six games in total via suspension.
Last Saturday, he received his fifth yellow card of the
season when he was booked during Lincoln's 4-1 victory over Barnet. This
means that Keates will miss Lincoln's trip to
Peterborough this coming Saturday. It could also mean
that Keates has played his final match for The Imps.
Alexander, speaking of Keates' suspension, said:
"Dean's done very well for us lately."
So far, Keates has made 24 appearances for Lincoln,
scoring 4 goals since he joined in July 2005.
