Striker
Departs Sincil Bank
17th January 2006
Lincoln City lost yet another member of their staff
today, when striker Maheta Molango departed the club.
Molango joined Lincoln from Brighton in August 2005 on a
season-long loan rather than the permanent transfer,
which had originally been expected. Molango impressed
during his pre-season trial at Lincoln by scoring
regularly. Unfortunately, his form did not continue into
Lincoln's league campaign and he failed to claim a first
team place.
It had been a similar story a year before, when he first
joined Brighton. However, he made an instant impact at
Brighton, as he scored within 12 seconds of his debut
against Reading. Unfortunately, this set a high standard
that could only lead to disappointment. After making six
appearances for Brighton during August 2004, he lost his
place and never played for Brighton again.
Last week, there was strong talk that Brighton had agreed
to terminate Molango's contract to enable him to return
to Spain. However, any such action required the approval
of Lincoln, as he was currently on loan at Sincil Bank.
Lincoln have opted not to stand in Molango's way, and the
paperwork was completed today thereby terminating his
loan contract.
Overall, Molango made 14 appearances for Lincoln, scoring
one goal.
