Gradi:
Gareth McAuley, Please Contact Me!
18th January 2006
Crewe Alexandra manager Dario Gradi is pleading for
Lincoln City defender Gareth McAuley to contact him personally over
McAuley's proposed £150,000 transfer.
As The
Forgotten Imp
reported on Saturday, Gradi was planning on
telephoning McAuley over the weekend. This was in an
attempt to bypass McAuley's agent Mel Eves in order to
end this transfer saga one way or the other.
Crewe and Lincoln agreed a £150,000 transfer for McAuley
as soon as the transfer window re-opened in January.
Alas, the smoothness of the deal was soon blighted as
third parties became involved, which has led to Gradi
levelling various accusations at Eves. He too has replied
with various quotes about McAuley and his future.
Speaking to Crewe's official
site, Gradi
said: "We've hit a bit of brick wall with McAuley to
a certain extent, but we haven't given up hope completely
because I'm still trying to contact him. There are too
many people involved now and it has made things
complicated.
"I've tried to get hold of him but it has proved
difficult. I just want his version of events really
because you never know."
In another interview, Gradi added: "There seemed to
be some confusion and Gareth was misinformed about
details regarding the deal
"He has to think whether he will get a better chance
to play in the Championship. We won't be interested in
him in the summer, so he will need to make his mind up
now."
Crewe are one of seven clubs who have been linked with
McAuley but they are the only club to follow up their
interest with a bid.
