Euro Fate!
27th January 2006
Unfortunately, Lincoln City FC are a long way from
playing in an European competition, but at least three
current Lincoln City players will have been eagerly
awaiting news of an European cup draw this morning.
Earlier this morning, the draw for the 2008 European
Championships' qualifying groups took place. Watching
with keen interest will have been Lee
Beevers, Jeff
Hughes and Gareth McAuley, all whom could play in these group
matches.
Beevers is a Welsh Under-21 international, who is keen to
earn a place in the full Welsh squad now that he is too
old for the Under-21's. McAuley, while on the books of
Lincoln City FC, has twice played for Northern Ireland
since June 2005. Alas, McAuley is expected to leave
Lincoln when his contract expires in June 2006. Hughes
has just received a call-up to the Northern Ireland
Under-21 squad, and could well play in these qualifying
matches should he continue to impress.
Meanwhile, England and Scotland have also found out their
fate, with Scotland likely to be the most disappointed.
