Crewe
Finally Give Up!
30th January 2006
Crewe Alexandra have finally ended their interest in
Lincoln City FC's defender Gareth McAuley.
As The
Forgotten Imp
revealed last week, McAuley is destined to remain at
Sincil Bank until the end of the 2005/06 season.
Even up to last Saturday, Crewe remained hopefully that
McAuley would speak to them regarding terms on his
£150,000 transfer from Lincoln. However, Crewe's manager
Dario Gradi has finally lost patience and issued a brief
comment regarding McAuley.
Gradi said: "I'm not expecting anything further on
him now. If he and his agent are waiting for the last
minute then the last minute has gone!"
Crewe, despite a variety of degrees of interest in
McAuley from seven clubs, were the only club to make a
firm approach for the Northern Ireland international.
McAuley is now eligible to discuss his own transfer under
the Bosman Ruling because his contract has less than six
months remaining. In theory, he could sign a new contract
with Lincoln City but The Imps would have to win
promotion to stand a realistic chance of keeping the
ambitious McAuley beyond June 2006.
