Walsall
Sign Keates
1st February 2006
As The
Forgotten Imp
revealed several hours ago, League One club Walsall have
indeed re-signed Dean Keates.
On Tuesday, Keates' contract at Lincoln City was
cancelled by mutual consent. The reasons cited was that
he need to move closer to his West Midlands' home because
of his pregnant wife.
Two weeks ago, The Forgotten Imp reported that Walsall were
interested in re-signing Keates but were unprepared to
pay Lincoln's £25,000 asking price. Now, because Keates'
contract was cancelled, Walsall have been able to sign
Keates on a free transfer.
Speaking to Walsall's official website, Keates stated:
"Lincoln were great and allowed me to talk to other
clubs. But as soon as this move came up, there was only
ever going to be one club I was going to leave Lincoln
for."
Early in January, Keates was one of two players plus a
six-figure sum offered by Lincoln City to
Macclesfield in exchange for Jon Parkin. That bid was
rejected by Macclesfield and Parkin later moved to Hull
City.
