Hughes Wins
Second Cap
8th February 2006
Jeff Hughes today continued his terrific start to 2006,
by winning his second cap for the Northern Ireland
Under-21 side.
Hughes, who can play as a left sided midfielder or as a
left back, was given a starting role by Northern Ireland
Under-21 manager Roy Millar. On Tuesday, he won his first
cap when he appeared as a substitute in Northern
Ireland's 1-0 victory against Israel Under-21.
Today's match was also a friendly against Israel
Under-21, and ended as a second 1-0 victory to Northern
Ireland. The goal was scored by Richard Clarke following
good work by Jamie Ward.
Northern Ireland came close to conceding a goal in the
72nd minute when goalkeeper Paul Willis committed a foul
inside the penalty area. However, Willis redeemed himself
by saving the resultant penalty.
Northern
Ireland's starting line-up: McGovern, Callaghan, McCaffrey,
Lindsay, Hughes, McVey, Clingan, Ward, McGowan, Clarke,
Smylie.
Hughes joined Lincoln City FC in August 2005 and has
recently established himself a first team regular.
