Ex-Imps
Take Reigns
17th February 2006
Two former Lincoln City FC players are set to unite at
local non-league club Spalding.
Earlier this week, Imps' legend Phil Hubbard was
appointed as Spalding's new manager. He was previously
manager at Nettleham Town until deciding to leave to join
Spalding.
Hubbard had two spells at Lincoln, which were between
1965 to 1971 and between 1976 to 1979. In total, he made
282 appearances for Lincoln City, which makes him 18th in
the list of "most number of player appearances for
The Imps".
Hubbard has wasted little time in trying to secure the
services of an assistant manager. Hoping to take this
role is Mark Hone, who is also a former Imps' player.
Hone is currently a player at Lincoln United but Spalding
hope to secure his release within the next 24-hours.
Lincoln United's manager John Wilkinson confirmed:
"I knew Mark had aspirations to move into
management, so it is not a total shock this sort of
chance has come about for him.
Hone made 54 appearances for Lincoln between July 1996
and May 1998. However, perhaps Hone will be most
remembered by Lincoln City's supporters for his horror
tackle during a FA Cup tie against Gainsborough Trinity.
