Cardiff
Awaits!
21st February 2006
The Football League have confirmed that their plan to
host this season's play-off finals at Wembley has been
scrapped.
This is because the new Wembley Stadium is unlikely to be
completed in time for May 2006. Instead, the play-off
finals, along with the FA Cup Final, will now take place
at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium, as per recent seasons.
A Football League spokesman confirmed: "The Football
League has exercised an option, negotiated in September
2004, to stage the Coca-Cola Football League Play-Off
Finals at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
"The League's five annual showpiece finals will
return to Wembley Stadium next season."
