Top Boss!
2nd March 2006
Lincoln City FC's manager Keith Alexander is possibly
celebrating this afternoon, after being confirmed as
February's Manager of the Month for League Two.
It might only be "possible celebrating" because
this award provokes mixed emotions. Traditionally, it has
been labelled a curse because managers who win this award
often see their side lose their next match.
Alexander last won the award in November 2004, but later
that season, he was controversially snubbed for another
month's award. This provoked Alexander to criticise the
award by stating that he had expected a greater value
prize than the sponsor's trophy cup! Chris Kamara then
criticised Alexander's reaction, as the row deepened.
Irrespective of whether Alexander wanted this award or
not, there is no doubting that he has earnt it. Lincoln
are currently on an unbeaten run of eleven matches - five
of which have been during February.
During these five matches, Lincoln have recorded 3-2
victories at both Stockport County and Barnet, plus they
defeated Torquay United (2-0) and Notts County (2-1) at
Sincil Bank. There was also a 1-1 draw at Macclesfield
Town, which in total, has seen The Imps move into seventh
position in the League Two table.
Alexander beat off competition from Paul Simpson
(Carlisle United), Russell Slade (Grimsby Town) and Peter
Shirtliff (Mansfield Town) to win the award.
Meanwhile, Adrian Boothroyd (Watford) and Martin Allen
(Brentford) have won the Manager of the Month awards for
the Championship and League One divisions respectively.
