Contract
News
7th March 2006
Several Lincoln City players have expressed a desire to
stay at the club, as The Imps aim for promotion from
League Two.
Current first team players Franny Green and Simon Yeo
both wish to stay at Sincil Bank, although neither has
yet been offered a new contract. The other two players
are Gary Birch and Matt Bloomer. Over the past week,
Birch, Bloomer and Green have been quoted in the
Lincolnshire Echo stating that they wish to stay.
This is a change in fortunes for Green, who was widely
expected to leave Lincoln when his contract expires in
June. Earlier this season, Green was unable to claim a
regular first team place, so controversially left to join
Boston United on loan. However, Green was recalled to
Lincoln in January, amidst the placing on leave of Imps'
boss Keith Alexander. Since then, Green has grasped his
first team opportunities to become one of the reasons
behind Lincoln's climb into promotion contention.
Meanwhile, Yeo's agent Jason Dunford has told the
Lincolnshire Echo that his client also wishes to stay at
Lincoln. Yeo returned to Lincoln in January from an
ill-fated spell in New Zealand, but surprisingly, he only
signed a six month contract despite interests from
several other clubs.
Bloomer, who is currently on loan at Conference club
Cambridge United, has not given up hope of playing for
Lincoln City again. His contract expires in June, but
should he make 25 appearances this season for The Imps,
then he is entitled to another year's contract. So far,
Bloomer has made 13 appearances, but most of these were
before October. Bloomer is currently on loan at
Conference club Cambridge United who are have eager to
sign him should he not receive a contract offer from
Lincoln.
Birch is another who should benefit from a clause in his
contract that entitled him to a second year at the club.
The clause was said to activate should he make 25
appearances during this season; a target that he has
already surpassed.
