Asamoah To
Stay At Chester
14th March 2006
It is now official that Lincoln City's striker Derek
Asamoah will remain on loan at Chester City until the end
of the season.
Asamoah joined Chester, then managed by Keith Curle, in
January. He instantly claimed a first team place in the
Chester side but after just one goal in seven
appearances, he was dropped. Curle has since departed
Chester and has been replaced by Mark Wright.
Asamoah has made just further appearance for Chester, and
the loan move appears to have turned into a nightmare.
Last Thursday, Chester were furious when Asamoah failed
to appear for training. They are currently considering
imposing a fine on the player. Now, Asamoah's agent
Charles Collymore - whose clients also include Curle,
several other Chester City players and Lincoln City
manager Keith Alexander - has entered the row.
According to quotes in the media, Collymore is upset at
the treatment of Asamoah. The major concern is that
Asamoah has been forced to move out of his Chester
accommodation at short notice. However, Chester's
chairman Steven Vaughan told the story differently, by
stating that Asamoah's accommodation was only ever
short-term, as the house belonged to a Chester City
director.
While Collymore and Vaughan are at odds over this event,
there is one thing that they do agree on. Collymore is
also believed to have stated that there was "no
chance of Asamoah leaving Chester before the end of the
season".
Vaughan concurred: "There has never been any
suggestion that Derek would leave Chester early, so I am
at a loss about that comment."
In an update to our story, Chester have now issued a full
statement on Derek Asamoah's situation, which can be read
here.
Asamoah is expected to leave Lincoln City in June when
his current contract expires.
