Watt In
Line For Carlisle Debut?
27th March 2006
Maybe this headline should read: "Who In Line For
Carlisle Debut?" because Lincoln City FC's
supporters look set to be introduced to another product
of The Imps' youth team.
Today, right-sided defender Phil Watt has been allocated
the first team squad number 30. This is ahead of Lincoln
City's eagerly anticipated trip to league leaders
Carlisle United on Tuesday evening.
While there are no guarantees that Watt will play a part
in tomorrow's game, it is logical to think that he is
being considered for a substitute's role.
Should Watt feature on the 16-man team sheet then he will
became the latest youth team player to do so this season.
Other youth team players who have been selected for the
first team include Leon Mettam and Tom Wilkinson,
although Wilkinson has yet to make his debut.
In January 2005, Jack Hobbs became the youngest player to
feature in a league match for Lincoln City. A few months
later, he made a transfer worth £750,000 to Premiership
club Liverpool.
Current first year professionals Lee Frecklington Ollie
Ryan have successfully made the transition from youth to
professional. Both players have since been rewarded with
new one-year contracts.
Overall, this is the best crop of young players that
Lincoln City have had for many a season.
