Mayo Out
For Month
29th March 2006
Paul Mayo is the latest Lincoln City FC defender to
succumb to long-term injury and will miss the next month.
Last Saturday, Mayo suffered an arm injury during
Lincoln's 5-0 thrashing of county rivals Grimsby Town. An
official diagnoses has shown that Mayo has chipped a bone
in his arm, which will require around four weeks to heal.
This means that Mayo will miss the matches at Darlington
(Apr 1st) and Wycombe Wanderers (Apr 17th) plus home
matches against Mansfield Town (Apr 8th), Bury (Apr 15th)
and Leyton Orient (Apr 22nd).
If the arm heals to the correct time scale then he should
feature in Lincoln's final two matches of the season
against Shrewsbury Town (away) and Rochdale (home).
This is the latest blow for left-back Mayo, who has only
recently returned from a lengthy injury that he sustained
in mid-January. During his absence, youngster Jeff Hughes
deputised at left-back until he also suffered an injury.
Imps' boss Keith Alexander is currently without several
key defenders because centre-halves Gareth McAuley and
Paul Morgan are also on the long-term absentee list.
However, both Morgan and Hughes are close to fitness.
Yesterday, Alexander fielded right-back Lee Beevers in
Mayo's vacant left-back spot. This might happen again at
Darlington, but Hughes could equally make his welcome
return.
