Seat Tax -
Update
1st April 2006
The sporting world can breathe easier this afternoon,
after it was revealed that the proposed "seat
tax" will not go ahead.
As The
Forgotten Imp
reported earlier today, rumours were sweeping across the media
of a new tax on sport. This tax would have been based
upon the number of seats inside a sporting stadium and
had already been dubbed as the "seat tax"!
Sport in general, not just football, would have been
affected. The preliminary calculations of this tax - as
shown in brackets - sent shudders through football, with
the "seat tax" bill for clubs such as Arsenal
(£385,000), Chelsea (£424,449), Manchester United
(£681,900), Tottenham (£362,140). Even our own Lincoln
City would have been set back £90,000!
Thankfully, at 12.01pm on this afternoon of April 1st
2006, a statement was issued, which read:
"Due to the potentially unpopular nature of this
tax, we can categorically deny that any plans are afoot
to introduce a so called "seat tax".
The statement then continues: "As many people
spotted, this was in fact an April's Fool Day Joke by The
Forgotten Imp!
Were you fooled?"
For reference: The Lyons' Inquiry into a "bed
tax" on hotels is in fact true!
