Trialist
Misses Hartlepool Match
6th April 2006
There was one disappointed player last night, when
Lincoln City trialist Cedric Mukendi missed last night's
reserve match against Hartlepool United.
However, by the end of the evening, there were many more
disappointed players around Sincil Bank, as The Imps
crashed to a 4-0 defeat.
Lincoln fielded a mainly youth team although senior
professionals Gary Birch, Martin Gritton and Steve
Robinson did feature for The Imps. Therefore this result
was of little surprise, especially as Lincoln's team
plans had been disrupted at short notice because Mukendi
was stranded in Swindon.
The game began with Hartlepool struggling, although they
later claimed that the Sincil Bank pitch was "hard
and uneven". Unfortunately, they did soon adapt and
took the lead via a controversial officiating decision.
Steve Istead passed to David Foley, whose shot rebounded
downwards off the crossbar. The assistant-referee
indicated a goal although Lincoln's players remained
unconvinced that the ball had crossed the goal line.
Foley scored a second goal when he slid the ball under
Imps' goalkeeper Ayden Duffy. Istead scored a deserved
goal to make it 3-0 before Martin Young completed the 4-0
jaunt for Hartlepool.
There is some good news for Mukendi because Lincoln City
have promised to offer him another trial in the near
future.
