Loach
Catches Watford Move
8th April 2006
Lincoln City's youth team goalkeeper Scott Loach has
agreed to sign for Championship club Watford, as
mentioned by The Forgotten Imp on Thursday
Loach joined Watford earlier this week on trial, which
has included playing in three matches. He could not have
wished for a better trial because he did not concede a
goal during these matches, which all ended as victories.
His first match saw Watford's youth team defeat Arsenal
(2-0); next was a 3-0 win over West Ham United's reserve
side. Finally, his trial spell ended with a 1-0 victory
over Fulham's reserves on Thursday evening.
Although only seventeen years of age, Loach has already
been touted as an excellent prospect for the future, It
had been hoped that he would remain at Lincoln City, as
The Imps had offered him professional terms ahead of next
season.
Unfortunately for Lincoln, they faced competition from
Aston Villa, Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers, Derby
County and Liverpool for Loach. However, Watford made a
stealth like manoeuvre to snatch and sign Loach before
other clubs officially entered the chase.
Lincoln will receive a transfer fee for Loach, but this
figure has not been disclosed by The Imps. The money that
they receive is to be invested in the youth academy, as
confirmed by John Schofield, who is Head of Youth
Development at Sincil Bank.
Schofield confirmed: "We are committed to finding
good, young footballers....any money we receive will go
back into youth development to see if we can find the
next gem."
Ironically, Loach came to Lincoln City's youth academy at
a late stage after spells at Ipswich Town, Chesterfield
and Nottingham Forest.
