Northern
Ireland Under-21 Squad News
10th April 2006
The latest Northern Ireland Under-21 squad has been
announced this afternoon. Once again, Lincoln City have a
representative in the squad.
Imps' left-back Jeff Hughes has retained his place
despite doubts that injury would interfere with his
international career.
Several weeks ago, Hughes suffered a calf strain -
ironically while playing for Northern Ireland Under-21
side. A week last Saturday, he made a surprise return to
Lincoln City's first team.
This Wednesday, the Northern Ireland Under-21 side travel
to Liechtenstein for an European Championship Qualifier.
This is a two-legged affair, with the return fixture
taking place later in the season.
Should Hughes play - as he is expected to do - against
Liechtenstien, then this will be his fourth Under-21 cap.
Quite remarkably, Hughes only made his Under-21 debut in
February!
