Lincoln City FC will not have a representative in the
Germany 2006 World Cup after striker Derek Asamoah failed
to make the Ghana squad.
Asamoah had been hoping for a late and shock call-up to
the squad for the finals which take place next month in
Germany. Has Asamoah succeeded then he would have been
the first Lincoln City player to feature in the Finals,
although others have taken part in various qualifying
stages.
As The
Forgotten Imp
reported last Thursday, Asamoah had received a shock
call-up to the Ghanaian squad for a friendly against
French club side Nice.
That friendly ended in a poor 3-0 defeat although Asamoah
stated that he was "quietly confident" of
winning a place in the squad for the Finals. Alas, it is
heartbreak for Asamoah, who has not been selected. Former
Imps' striker Junior Agogo also misses out after be
dropped from the squad that faced Nice.
