Predictions: Who Is Leaving (M to Z)

18th May 2006

Predictions - Page 2: A to L

Gareth McAuley (profile) - Central defender Gareth McAuley has already been offered a new contract. Unfortunately, at least ten other clubs have taken an interest in him this season.

The latest club to show an interest is Championship club Hull City. This means that Lincoln are 99% likely to lose the ambitious McAuley, who is eager to retain his Northern Ireland international starting place. Lincoln's failure to achieve promotion is likely to be McAuley's deciding factor.

Prediction: Leaving. Everyone at Lincoln City hopes that McAuley will stay but the fact that Lincoln failed to renew his contract during the 2004/05 season seems a costly error.

Simon Rayner (profile) - Simon Rayner is a Canadian youth and Under-23 international goalkeeper. A competent goalkeeper, who was once scouted by Newcastle United.

Unfortunately for Rayner, he has been unable to oust Alan Marriott. He spent three months on loan at non-league Alfreton Town, where he endured mixed fortunes at times.

Lincoln had offered professional terms to youth team goalkeeper Scott Loach but he has opted to join Watford. Had Loach accepted Lincoln's offer, then Rayner would probably have left Lincoln.

Prediction: Staying. Releasing Rayner would mean that Alexander must search for a new reserve goalkeeper. Therefore it is easier to retain Rayner.

Marvin Robinson (profile) - Marvin Robinson is a journeyman striker who has played for ten clubs during his relatively short professional career. Still only 26 years of age, Robinson has much to offer, and has weighed in with 11 goals this season from 39 appearances. This makes him Lincoln's leading goal scorer, ahead of Gary Birch by one goal.

Robinson, like Birch, perhaps could expect that this statistic will guarantee him a new contract. Highly debatable whether Alexander will allow this to influence him too significantly.

Prediction: Released - a shock release could beckon alongside Birch.

Steve Robinson (profile) - Midfielder Steve Robinson was hailed as a great signing when he joined Lincoln last July.

Unfortunately, a pre-season injury disrupted his start to the season and things never picked-up. He is a good passer of the ball and looked impressive when he finally made his Imps' debut.

Robinson spent three months on loan at non-league Worksop Town before returning to Lincoln in January. He went on to start a further ten games for Lincoln before losing his place. His name has hardly been mentioned during the past few months.

Prediction: Released. There seems no hope of Robinson remaining at Sincil Bank.

Jude Stirling (profile) - Jude Stirling is another utility player, who was given a short term contract in January 2006. A gamble by Alexander but Stirling does show raw talent and has a tremendously long throw.

Despite making just six substitute appearances for Lincoln, he has become a firm fans' favourite.

Prediction: Released but perhaps bizarrely, most Imps' fans would like to see Stirling offered a new contract, if only for another six months.

Simon Yeo (profile) - What can be said about Simon Yeo that has not already been said? He returned to Lincoln in January after an ill-fated spell in New Zealand.

Yeo is one of the main reasons why Lincoln qualified for the play-offs. It would be very brave of Alexander not to offer Yeo a new contract.

Prediction: Staying.
