Within the past hour, Gareth McAuley has today broken a
long-standing Lincoln City Football Club record.
Tonight saw Northern Ireland play Uruguay in a match at
the Giants' Stadium in New Jersey, USA. It was the first
match of a mini-tour of the USA that Northern Ireland are
undertaking.
Although McAuley failed to make the starting line-up, he
did make an appearance as an 83rd minute substitute. This
means that he has now won four Northern Ireland
international caps while at Lincoln City FC, which makes
him the club's most capped player of all time.
This was the second time that McAuley has played at the
Giants' Stadium - and he is the only current Northern
Ireland player to have done so prior to this match. A few
years ago, he was a member of a six-a-side Irish pub team
who won a competition prize of a trip to play a training
session at the famous stadium.
