Imps Keen
On Ex-Newcastle Striker
24th May 2006
Lincoln City FC's manager Keith Alexander is facing a
tough battle to lure one of his first choice targets to
Sincil Bank.
Alexander has earmarked Yeovil Town striker Kevin Gall as
the ideal man to help improve Lincoln's goal scoring
ratio. Unfortunately, twelve other club managers have
similar thoughts.
Lincoln are facing competition from Bristol Rovers,
Carlisle United, Cheltenham Town, Darlington, Doncaster
Rovers, Grimsby Town, Huddersfield Town, Leyton Orient,
Northampton Town, Southend United and Swindon Town.
Already, both Bristol Rovers and Northampton are ahead in
the race as they are due to hold talks with Gall.
24-year-old Gall began his career at Newcastle United as
a trainee but was allowed to leave in March 2001. He
joined Bristol Rovers where he made 60 appearances and
scored 5 goals. His form was good enough to earn him
several Wales Under-21 international caps.
However in February 2003, he was released by Bristol
Rovers. Upon his release he joined Yeovil Town, initially
on trial before securing a permanent transfer. At the
time, Yeovil were playing in the Conference division.
Gall subsequently lost his first team place soon after
Yeovil won promotion to League Two. The general consensus
at Yeovil appears to be that he struggled against the
better defences of League Two.
Gall responded well to this disappointment and ensured
that he quickly returned to the first team. However, with
Phil Jevons scoring freely for Yeovil, there was
significantly more competition for striking places. This
led to Gall being given a right midfield role, where he
flourished to help Yeovil to the League Two championship.
The 2005/06 season saw Yeovil lose their manager Gary
Johnson to Bristol City. His replacement, Steve Thompson,
later told Gall that he was no longer required, which has
led to Gall's release from Yeovil.
Overall, Gall has made 154 Football League appearances
for Yeovil, and has scored 29 goals.
