Search Update
1st June 2006
Lincoln City FC moved a stage closer to a new manager
yesterday, when the current board met to discuss early
applicants.
While they consider further applications, The
Forgotten Imp
continues to highlight several candidates who could apply
for the post. We start with two managers who have this
week joined the long list of over 100 other unemployed
managers registered with the League Manager's
Association.
Russell
Slade -
Yesterday, Russell Slade became a surprise addition to
the list of possible new managers for Lincoln City, when
he departed Grimsby Town.
Slade's contract was due for renewal but negotiations
ended with Slade and Grimsby parting company.
He joined Grimsby two seasons ago, but endured a mixed
first season with Town supporters divided over his
ability. However, this season saw a dramatically improved
Grimsby miss out on automatic promotion before losing the
League Two Play-off Final to Cheltenham Town.
Slade has also suffered mixed fortunes at both Sheffield
United and Scarborough. Wherever he goes next, Slade will
be eager to prove that he is not a one season wonder.
His departure from Grimsby makes him one of the
favourites to join Lincoln, especially as he has worked
with several of the current Imps' squad when at
Scarborough. Slade has also been linked to the vacant job
at Yeovil Town.
Martin
Allen - This
week, Martin Allen shocked Brentford by leaving the club
despite just missing out on automatic promotion to the
Championship.
Allen is a very talented and ambitious manager, hence he
is unlikely to take a step down to League Two. He has
already been linked to the vacant post at Championship
club Ipswich Town.
Leroy
Rosenior -
Leroy Rosenior is another young and talented manager, who
could fit the profile of the next Lincoln City boss.
He is currently the assistant-manager at Shrewsbury Town
but is eager to return to a manager's post. Rosenior
applied for the Peterborough United job but was rejected
in favour of former Imps' boss Keith Alexander. It would
be slightly ironic if he was then named as Lincoln City's
new manager.
Rosenior is a familiar name to Imps' fans as he was
involved in a war of words with Alexander over the style
employed by Alexander's players. He might feel that his
previous comments mean that Lincoln would be a difficult
job to take but many Imps' fans actually agree with him
about Alexander's tactics, so those supporters would
appreciate Rosenior's passing style.
Rosenior is definitely a manager that could help Lincoln
City progress to League One.
Brian
Talbot - Brian
Talbot is a manager who is likely to have applied for the
vacant Imps' post. Talbot had applied for the Stevenage
Borough manager's job but was overlooked in favour of
Mark Stimson, who had been linked to Lincoln - [which
goes to show the merry-go-round of management at its
best!]
Talbot led Rushden and Diamonds into the Football League
before switching to Oldham Athletic. A very knowledgeable
manager who has played at the very highest level of
English football with Arsenal.
Talbot would prove a surprise choice as Lincoln City's
manager but he has the skills to make a success of the
job.
John
Gorman - John
Gorman has managed at all levels of English football and
even coached at England when Glenn Hoddle was England's
manager.
Gorman is a highly respected manager, who almost guided
Wycombe Wanderers to promotion from this season's League
Two. Unfortunately, personal problems affected Gorman and
he later parted company after first taking a break for
compassionate reasons. He is now keen for a return to
management and is certainly worth consideration by
Lincoln City's board.
Jan
Molby - Jan
Molby is a former Liverpool and Denmark international who
has great respect in football.
Molby began his managerial career as player-manager at
Swansea City and came close to landing the Lincoln City
job in 1998. Following his rejection by Lincoln City, he
went on to lead Kidderminster Harriers into the Football
League before later joining Hull City.
Unfortunately, his managerial career went downhill at
Hull and he eventually parted company. A return to
Kidderminster followed but they too parted company in
October 2004.
