McAuley Has
High Hopes
7th June 2006
Less than 48-hours after joining Leicester City, former
Imps' defender Gareth McAuley has revealed his
Premiership ambitions.
McAuley, in one of his many interviews since announcing
on Monday that Leicester had won the race for his
signature, has stated that he intends to play in the
Premiership (with Leicester).
Speaking, McAuley said: "Ultimately the aim has to
be to play in the Premiership...."
Should McAuley realise his Premiership ambition then he
will become of the few recent former Lincoln City players
to make the Premiership grade. Excluding loan signings,
the two most recent ex-Imps to play in the Premiership
are legendary Imps' star Gareth Ainsworth (Wimbledon) and
goalkeeper Mike Pollitt (Wigan Athletic).
