Wilson Emerges As A Favourite

7th June 2006

Later this week, Lincoln City chairman Steff Wright will continue interviewing candidates for the vacant Lincoln City's manager position.

No names have been mentioned but developments elsewhere has left Danny Wilson as a strong favourite to land The Imps' job.

On Monday, unemployed manager John Gorman made a quick return to management when Northampton Town named him as successor to Colin Calderwood, who has departed for Nottingham Forest.

Gorman has publicly admitted applying for the Lincoln City post but Northampton's approach came before Lincoln could follow up the interest.

Meanwhile, former Grimsby Town manager Russell Slade has today been named as Yeovil Town's new manager. Slade had been linked to the Lincoln job after he left county rivals Grimsby Town last week. However, Slade remained an outsider for The Imps' post because Yeovil quickly emerged as the favourites to recruit him.

Also today, Exeter City's manager Alex Inglethorpe has quit the club in readiness of moving to a club higher in the football pyramid. Exeter had received an approach from MK Dons for Inglethorpe but it is believed that he will join Tottenham Hotspur as a youth team coach. The linking of Inglethorpe to Lincoln is inevitable but it seems that there is little fact to rumour.

Legendary Imps' striker John Ward is the Lincoln City supporters' choice for the job but Ward is presently in contract negotiations with his current club Cheltenham Town. Should Ward opt to stay with newly promoted Cheltenham then Wilson will certainly rank highly as Lincoln City's supporters new number one choice.

Wilson has recently stated that he would consider a return to management with a League Two club. He has already admitted his willingness to speak to Hartlepool United about their vacant manager's job.

Wilson is vastly experienced at management having taken Barnsley into the Premiership several seasons ago. He later joined Sheffield Wednesday, then of the Premiership. A couple of seasons ago, he came close to leading Bristol City to promotion from League One.
