League Cup Draw
20th June 2006
Lincoln City FC are just hours away from finding out
their opponents for next season's League Cup, which once
again is sponsored by Carling.
The draw takes place tomorrow lunch time, and it will see
the 72 Football League clubs placed into four groups of
18 teams. The draw is firstly separated into a north and
south divide of 36 teams: Lincoln City have been placed
into the northern quota of clubs.
These 36 teams are then seeded into two groups of 18,
based upon their final league position of the 2005/06
season. Lincoln City have been ranked at position 27,
which means that they are unseeded. Each of the 18 seeded
clubs will be paired with one of the 18 unseeded clubs,
which means that Lincoln can only draw one of following
18 clubs: Sunderland, Preston North End, Leeds United,
Wolves, Stoke City, Leicester City, Burnley, Hull City,
Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley, Crewe Alexandra,
Huddersfield, Nottingham Forest, Doncaster Rovers, Oldham
Athletic, Bradford City or Scunthorpe United.
For the past two seasons, Lincoln have recorded shock but
emphatic victories over clubs from the Championships.
