Wants To Keep Yeo
20th June 2006
New Lincoln City FC Head Coach John Schofield has today
expressed his desire to keep striker Simon Yeo at Sincil
Bank.
Yeo is one of four Lincoln City FC players who were
offered new contracts at the end of last season. However,
the Football League have set a June 20th protection
deadline for all out of contract players to accept these
terms. After today, clubs are within their rights to
withdraw the offers that they had made to their out of
contract players.
So far, only Gareth McAuley has officially rejected
Lincoln's offer of a new contract in favour of a transfer
to Leicester City. This leaves Yeo, Gary Birch and Marvin
Robinson deliberating. The trio face an uncertain future
after today, as their contract offers were made by former
Imps' manager Keith Alexander, who has since left Lincoln
City.
While there is no word regarding Robinson and Birch, new
Head Coach Schofield has today stated that he wants to
Yeo to stay.
Schofield said: "Simon has got a contract offer on
the table and it is up to him to make a decision although
I want him here."
A problem has arisen because Yeo's new contract terms are
thought to include a pay cut. Yeo's agent has been trying
to find alternative clubs willing to speak to his client,
while also trying to seek renegotiation with Lincoln City
FC.
One of these clubs who were approached was Stockport
County but County manager Jim Gannon is not expected to
follow up the approach due to Yeo's age.
The other club who have been touted as a possible
destination for Yeo is Peterborough United, who have
recently appointed Alexander as their new manager.
Alexander admits that he would like to sign Yeo but he
already has a surplus of strikers.
Apart from a six month spell playing in New Zealand in
2005, Yeo has spent the past four years at Sincil Bank,
where he has established himself as fans' favourite.
