Ex-Imps'
United At Weymouth
8th July 2006
Two former Lincoln City strikers are to unite at
Conference club Weymouth for the 2006/07 season.
Last month, Weymouth secured the signature of Richard
Logan, who is a former Lincoln City loanee. Logan joined
Lincoln in November 2005 on a month's loan from
Peterborough United. At the time, Lincoln were struggling
in the league and Logan seemed the ideal candidate to
help turn Lincoln's season around.
Logan impressed during his early games for Lincoln but
his loan spell was cut short on January 2nd, when
Peterborough recalled him from Sincil Bank. In total, he
made 8 appearances and scored 2 goals.
Logan became a free agent in June, after Peterborough
decided to release him. The decision to release Logan
fell to new Peterborough manager Keith Alexander, who was
the Lincoln City manager who signed Logan on loan.
Speculation immediately linked Lincoln with a move for
Logan but he surprisingly signed for Weymouth before the
then managerless Imps could act.
Weymouth are a familiar name to those Lincoln City
supporters who can recall the 1987/88 season. At the
time, Weymouth were tipped as potential winners of the
Conference. Since their peak in the late 1980's they have
fallen steadily through the non-league pyramid. They have
now reversed their fortunes and have finally gained
promotion back to the Conference.
Logan will partner Marcus Richardson in the Weymouth
attack. Richardson, who yesterday signed for Weymouth,
was plying his trade at Sincil Bank just 15 months ago.
He was a vital member of The Imps' squad until February
2005, when a training fracas with then Imps' midfielder
Ciaran Toner cost both players their careers at Lincoln
City FC. Richardson has spent the past 15 months drifting
between Yeovil Town, Chester City and Macclesfield Town.
Weymouth manager Gary Hill enthused: "Marcus is a
big and strong striker and I'm really looking forward to
putting him up against Conference National defences next
season."
"He's very mobile for someone his size but I'm
pretty certain his physical presence will mean he'll be a
real handful for other teams come August."
Weymouth are rapidly becoming an outside bet to win
promotion to the Football League for the 2007/08 season.
