Yeo Held To
Ransom
13th July 2006
Lincoln City FC and Peterborough United FC are continuing
their battle over the possible signing of former Imps'
striker Simon Yeo. Today, Lincoln City have been called
"silly" in their demands over Yeo's proposed
transfer to Peterborough.
As The
Forgotten Imp
reported here yesterday, Peterborough's owner Barry
Fry has offered a deal based on appearances by and goals
scored by Yeo plus an extra payment if Peterborough win
promotion.
Lincoln originally wanted a player exchange but
Peterborough rejected that idea. The Imps have now placed
a £50,000 price tag on Yeo, despite Yeo actually being a
free agent. If Yeo were to sign for any club other than
Peterborough United then Lincoln City would not receive a
penny.
The sole reason why Lincoln believe that compensation is
due is because they negotiated a deal with former Imps'
boss Keith Alexander. As part of the decision to allow
Alexander to leave Sincil Bank, he was requested not so
sign any of Lincoln City's contracted players unless
Lincoln City agreed.
Fry confirmed: "Myself and Keith have discussed the
situation with Lincoln, but they want £50,000 in
compensation which is unrealistic."
It seems unlikely that an agreement can be reached by the
two clubs. Instead, the Football League are now expected
to make a ruling after receiving all the relevant
documents from the two clubs.
