Imps Lose
To Trinity
18th July 2006
Lincoln City FC's Head Coach John Schofield was left to
seek positives from a shock 3-1 friendly defeat against
non-leaguers Gainsborough Trinity.
In truth, there were some positives, as Lincoln City did
try to play some good passing football. There was another
positive in that several of Lincoln City's first year
professionals showed some neat touches and good link-up
play comparable to their more experienced team mates.
Indeed, it was first year pro Shane Clarke who scored
Lincoln's goal, when he sent a powerful drive into the
net during the 81st minute. Unfortunately, Lincoln were
already 3-0 down, as Gainsborough had scored three times
previously through Ryan Mallon (penalty), Matty Caudwell
and former Imp Charlie Trout.
Schofield had named a full-strength team for the start of
the match, but these were replaced in the 52nd minute
while the score stood at just 1-0.
Lincoln
City (1st half): Rayner, Beevers, Morgan, Moses, Mayo,
Sherlock, Kerr, Frecklington, Forrester, Bacon, Ryan.
Lincoln
City (after 52 mins): Duffy, Watt, Foster, Cryan, Warlow,
Melton, Clarke, Toyne, Forbes-Chambers, Birch, Mettam.
