Leicester
City Visit
24th July 2006
Lincoln City FC's players are to test their promotion
credentials against Championship club Leicester City at
Sincil Bank this evening.
As well as having the opportunity to test themselves
against a team two divisions higher, the players can also
compare themselves to some of their divisional rivals.
Leicester City's pre-season preparations have included
matches against Boston United, Macclesfield Town and
Stockport County. All three matches have ended as a
victory for Leicester City.
Perhaps with this mind, Imps' Head Coach John Schofield
says he might not field his first team. A thought that
betrays his thinking because he must obviously have a
first team already planned for the opening league match
of the season on August 5th.
Schofield believes that representatives from other League
Two clubs will tonight attend Sincil Bank for scouting
purposes. Hence his admission that tonight's team might
not be the one that faces Notts County on August 5th.
In fairness to Schofield, it is probable that he cannot
field his first team as both Paul Mayo and Paul Morgan
have groin injuries and are expected to be rested from
tonight's match. This will give trialist Ryan Amoo
another opportunity to impress as he should start in
Morgan's place.
Expected to line up for Leicester City is Gareth McAuley,
who left Lincoln City in June. The game will give both
McAuley and The Imps fans the chance to say their final
goodbyes before McAuley embarks on his new life in the
Championship.
