Lincoln City 3 Leicester City 3

25th July 2006

It was honours even at Sincil Bank on Tuesday evening, as Lincoln City drew 3-3 with Leicester City in a friendly match.

Prior to the match, it was announced - as we reported earlier in the day - that Ryan Semple had signed for Lincoln City FC. He joins on a two year contract from Peterborough United. This transfer has also "smoothed the way" for ex-Imps' striker Simon Yeo to sign for Peterborough, which he will do before their friendly match against Northampton Town on Tuesday evening.

Whatever the outcome of Peterborough's match, it is unlikely to match the excitement and drama shown in the Lincoln v Leicester game.

Lincoln took the lead in the 18th minute, when the impressive Lee Frecklington sent a dipping shot over the head of Leicester goalkeeper Rab Douglas.

It became 2-0 in the 22nd minute when Danny Bacon neatly released Scott Kerr, who slotted the ball into the net. Although we are still in pre-season, already there is some optimism as certain Lincoln City players are displaying some fine skills during these friendly matches.

Douglas was at fault for Lincoln's third goal in the 32nd minute, when he brought down Mark Stallard. However, Douglas briefly redeemed himself by saving Jamie Forrester's penalty although Forrester was able to score from the rebound to make it 3-0 to The Imps.

Both side made alterations at half-time but it was Leicester who benefited as they scored two goals in quick succession. The first was scored in the 47th minute by Chris O'Grady, while two minutes later, Elvis Hammond made it 3-2.

Wholesale changes to Lincoln's side were made in the 63rd minute as both sides sought to win this match. Eventually, Leicester benefited from a stroke of luck when the unfortunate Phil Watt headed into his own net to make the final score 3-3.
