Lincoln City FC are among the 92 clubs who are chasing an unique piece of football history!

For in the country that invented the beautiful game, a special milestone is about to be achieved. English League Football is about to witness it’s 500,000th goal.

The new season begins on Saturday 5th August. So far, there has been 499,855 goals in over 100 seasons of football since the league began in 1888.

The forthcoming event is so special that Sporting Odds are even offering a betting market as to which team will score the 500,000th goal. If you fancy a flutter on Lincoln City, then they are quoted at 50/1.

Sportingodds spokesman Alan Alger said: “We anticipate that the winning goal will probably be scored sometime on Tuesday 8th of August, when the smaller clubs will be playing their second round of games.”

A quick quiz question: which team has scored the most goals in English League football?

If you answered Manchester United or Chelsea, then you are wrong. For the answer is Wolves, who have scored 7,021 goals. Next is Manchester United on 7,013, while Liverpool are third with 6,939.
