Ex-Imps'
News Round-up (5/8/06)
5th August 2006
A number of former Lincoln City FC players have found
themselves new clubs just hours before the 2006/07 season
commences.
First on the list is Lee Crooks, who has signed a
one-year contract at Rochdale. Crooks spent the majority
of summer 2006 on trial at Lincoln City, although he
bizarrely failed to make many appearances during
Lincoln's friendly matches.
A more familiar name linked to Lincoln City's past is
right-back Mark Bailey. As we predicted in June, Bailey
has indeed rejoined his former Imps' manager Keith
Alexander at Peterborough United.
Striker Derek Asamoah, who was released by The Imps in
June 2006, has surprisingly joined League Two club
Shrewsbury Town. It is a surprising transfer as League
One club Scunthorpe United had also offered Asamoah a
contract, but he rejected this in favour of Shrewsbury.
Shrewsbury manager Gary Peters enthused: "Derek has
all the attributes to do well for us this season. He's
just 25 and knows where the goal is. He's played a lot of
his career as a right winger, but we see him as a
centre-forward".
The final player on the move is ex-Imps loanee Maheta
Molango, who endured a difficult loan spell at Lincoln
City last season. Originally, the loan had been for the
entire season but was terminated six months early in
January 2006. Molango has joined League One club Oldham
Athletic on a month's loan.
