Former Imp
Creates Goal History
9th August 2006
In our article on August 3rd, which can be found here, we wondered whether Lincoln
City would create goal history. Sadly, that has not
happened but a former Lincoln City player has achieved
goal immortality!
Prior to yesterday's matches, there had been 499,937
goals scored in the history of professional league
football. This meant that the 63rd goal scored - should
there be one - would create history by being the
500,000th goal scored.
In a twist of fate, the 63rd goal of the evening was
scored in the 79th minute of Huddersfield Town's 3-0
victory over Rotherham United. The scorer of the goal was
former Lincoln City striker Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who
will now receive a special award from the Football
League.
