Striker
Holds Talks With Tamworth
10th August 2006
The season is less than a week old, but the first
departure from Lincoln City FC is already on the cards,
as striker Gary Birch has held talks with Tamworth over a
proposed loan deal.
The terms of the transfer would see Birch join Conference
club Tamworth on a month's loan. Officially, this is to
help Birch gain first team football but this development
is the latest in a farce over Birch's status at Lincoln
City FC.
In June, Lincoln City FC officially announced that Birch
had agreed a new contract, only for the player himself to
state otherwise. A month later, the club announced that
Birch and Lincoln City FC had parted ways after the club
withdrew their contract offer to him. Less than 48-hours
later, Birch opted to sign his contract, which the club
allowed him to do.
The problems stem from Birch's travelling to work time of
over two hours from his West Midlands' home. His summer
contract demands varied from a two-year contract to allow
him to move to Lincoln, to asking for midweek living
allowances.
Now, it appears that Lincoln City are willing to loan
Birch to Tamworth, who only avoided relegation from the
Conference due to other clubs opting to leave the
division despite finishing higher than Tamworth.
Birch has yet to see first team action this season after
being named as an unused substitute for both of Lincoln
City's opening fixtures of the new season.
