Round-up 17/8/06
17th August 2006
Lincoln City yesterday entertained Liverpool in a
friendly at Sincil Bank, as part of the deal that took
youth teamer Jack Hobbs to Anfield.
Both sides were without several first teamers, although
for differing reasons. Several of Liverpool's players
were absent through international duty while Imps' Head
Coach John Schofield decided to rest various first
teamers.
The match ended as 2-1 victory for Liverpool, with
Liverpool's goals being scored by Mark Gonzalez and
Besian Idrizaj. Lincoln's goal was scored by Ryan Semple,
who continues his return to match fitness ahead of
Lincoln's match against Walsall on Saturday.
The Liverpool match meant that Lincoln City were
struggling for players for their reserve team fixture
away at Hull City. As it was, both Gary King and Owain
Warlow played in both matches. The match ended as a 3-0
victory for a more experienced Hull City against
Lincoln's youth trainees.
Lincoln have been hit by an unexpected blow ahead with
the news that Ryan Amoo is banned. Amoo must serve a
week's ban for his sending off while playing for
Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division club Barrow
Town against Ratby Sports on April 29th 2006. He will
miss Lincoln City's match against Accrington Stanley.
Yesterday also saw Imps' left-sided utility player Jeff
Hughes make his sixth appearance for the Northern Ireland
Under-21 side when they travelled to Romania for a
European Under-21 Championship qualification match. Alas,
the match ended as 3-0 defeat, which marks the end of
Hughes' unbeaten run in the Northern Ireland Under-21
side.
