JPT Draw
Details
22nd September 2006
The draw for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy takes place on
Saturday - this is the competition formerly known as the
LDV Vans' Trophy. However, it is not just the sponsor who
has changed, but the whole format.
Unlike in recent seasons, the competition does not
include any teams from the Conference National. The
format reverts back to an exclusive competition for the
two lower league clubs.
The draw is now regionalised beyond a simple north and
south divide. This means that Lincoln City can only draw
one of seven clubs. The seven potential opponents are:
Bradford, Doncaster, Grimsby, Hartlepool, Huddersfield,
Rotherham and Scunthorpe.
Should a tie end all square at 90 minutes then there will
no longer be extra time, with the tie progressing
straight to penalties.
The biggest alteration is that clubs must field the
majority of players who have appeared most often during
the season. This is to prevent clubs from fielding
weakened teams. However, this is also detrimental to many
clubs who prefer to blood promising youth team players,
as Lincoln City have done in the past.
