Lincoln 0 Bury 2

30th September 2006

Lincoln City went down to their worst defeat of the season, as Bury shocked their higher placed hosts.

Bury showed their early desire to attack, when they won a 2nd minute corner. Two minutes later, Scot Kerr was cautioned for a foul on Richie Baker.

The first half was devoid of any real goal scoring opportunities although Lincoln were clearly enjoying the majority of the possession. Alas, when Bury did win possession, they utilised the ball to the best advantage. This was demonstrated in the 17th minute when they won consecutive corners.

Lincoln's best chance of the first half came in the 27th minute when Lee Frecklington's corner was met by Lee Beevers. His shot was palmed away by Bury goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel at the expense of a second corner.

Bury almost opened the scoring from a 37th minute corner. Marc Pugh's delivery was met by Andy Bishop's head, only for Kerr to clear off the goal line. Five minutes later, and Bury did score the first goal of the match. Paul Mayo's foul on Pugh conceded a dangerous free-kick that was partially cleared. The ball fell to
Baker, whose 20-yard shot went past Alan Marriott and into the net for 1-0 to Bury.

Within a minute of the second half beginning, Bury had won another corner. This time, Dwayne Mattis connected with the corner but thankfully, his shot went just wide.

The let-off was short-lived as Bury doubled their lead in the 53rd minute when
Glynn Hurst headed Thomas Kennedy's shot past Marriott for 2-0.

Imps' Head Coach John Schofield elected to alter his team in the 58th minute when Nicky Eaden was replaced by Ryan Amoo. Nothing altered as Bury were prepared to allow Lincoln possession in exchange for a good defensive organisation.

Lincoln had one shot of note in the second half, when Schmeichel gathered Jamie Forrester's 71st minuet effort. Four minutes later, Kerr departed the field for striker Martin Gritton. Once again, nothing much changed although Lincoln did win a couple of corners around the 80th minute.

Amoo was cautioned for an 88th minute foul on Baker. Soon afterwards, the referee blew the final whistle to end a disappointing Lincoln performance.
